Group backs Obasanjo on new coalition

- Liberal Democratic Movement has aligned with ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo's assessment of President Muhammadu Buhari - The group said it agrees that the president was demonstrating nepotism and condoning corruption - It also agreed with Obasanjo that the All Progressives Congress had lost its credibility A group identified as the Liberal Democratic Movement (LDM), has commended ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo for the statement credited to him on the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari. The group which made the commendation at a meeting held in Akure, the Ondo state capital, aligned with Obasanjo that President Buhari produced some positive results in the areas of the fight against insurgency and the war against corruption, but recorded low progress on the economy, The Nation reports. NAIJ.com gathered that a communique by its protem chairman, Demola Ijabiyi, and secretary, Oluwadurotimi Akintoye, pointed out that President Buhari has performed below expectation by demonstrating ‘acute nepotism’ and condoning corruption among his close associates and fellow party men. The group said it would be a great disservice to the nation for Buhari to aspire for second term in office. It added: "We therefore agree with Obasanjo that the APC has lost credibility within our body politic and the only possible alternative, PDP, might not be able to face these daunting challenges confronting the nation." The group therefore, supported Obasanjo’s Coalition for Nigeria Movement, hoping that it would turn into a political party that would replace APC and PDP. It was previously reported that ahead of 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari received support from some non-governmental organisations in Nigeria just as the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) was to be unveiled in Abuja on Wednesday, January 31. The CNM is being championed by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo and it was reported that 10 of the 36 governors in Nigeria and a couple of members of the National Assembly had shown interest in it. The report further said that about 200 non-governmental organisations in support of Buhari, promised in Abuja to commence a nationwide rally in support of the current administration.
